Re. Opening of The Club Midday Saturday 04th July 2020
Firstly, Keith and I would like to thank all members who have continued to pay their subscriptions, members who have donated directly to the Club and members who have donated through the GoFundMe site set up by Mitch Stokes. Thank you, Mitch, for organising this and for the coverage in the Basingstoke Gazette.
At long last after the latest Government statement we can plan to reopen, although not to our full capacity. In the Club house we will be keeping to tables of two, these will be 2m apart for social distancing purposes, to protect our staff and members. Please do not move the tables. When the maximum numbers are reached inside the clubhouse, unfortunately we cannot accommodate extra people.TV volumes will be kept to a minimum to avoid people having to shout and possibly spreading the virus through “aerosol transmission”. Hand sanitizers will be available at the entrance to the bar and to the toilets.
A one-way system will be in operation in and out of the bar, this will be clearly marked. No children will be permitted into the Club except if they require the toilet and then they must be accompanied by an adult.
Payment will be by card only. Ordering and collecting drinks will be clearly marked and the staff, after every purchase, will wash/sanitize their hands before serving the next customer.
All drinks will be served in plastic glasses until further notice, you can bring your own glass but it will not be collected or touched by the bar staff, you will be able to re-fill it from the plastic glasses provided. We will be offering a take away service, in four- or six-pint containers. It would be appreciated if you bring your own containers as at present, we are having difficulty purchasing our own containers.
You are most welcome to bring your own chairs/blankets so as to sit out outside on the grass. Also, there are many benches situated around the ground to sit on. It would be a great help if you could bring your own wipes if you are sitting outside on the benches.
The bar opening hours are as follows, but will be reviewed regularly: -
Saturday Midday to 21.00 hrs.
Sunday Midday to 20.00 hrs.
Monday – Friday 17.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs.
The kitchen will be open from 04th July – further details, times etc. to follow in due course.
If social distancing and good manners are not adhered to the bar staff will either ask the individual to leave or the Club will close. We will review and adapt our procedures as and when we receive further guidance from the Government and also based on how things are working making sure at all times that staff and members safety is our utmost priority.
Please keep yourself, family, members and staff safe by adhering to our policies and Government guidelines.

It is with great shock and sadness that Basingstoke and North Hants Cricket announce the untimely death of its former captain Lee Nurse. After fighting the Coronavirus bravely for nearly 3 weeks he finally succumbed to the illness on Thursday 9th April, he was just 43 years old. Our deepest sympathies go to Chris and Leon his parents, Dean his brotherand Rilee his son and the rest of the family.
‘Nursey’ had played cricket for BNHCC for the vast majority of his playing career so we have lost an important member of our cricketing family but most of all we have all lost a dearfriend.
The numbers speak for themselves, over 400 1st XI matches played, scoring 10,900 runs at an average of 30.4, scoring 18 hundreds and 56 half-centuries with a highest score of 157. What would have pleased him the most though would be the 50 wickets at 26.5 as he always felt he was a better bowler than we gave him credit for, add 127 catches and 3 stumping’s and you can see what a massive contribution he made to the team and the club.
But these statistics go no-where near showing what Lee brought to the Club and the matches he played in. He was always a joy to play with and with him in the team made playing the game so much more enjoyable, with his infectious character and the funny stories he shared whilst stood at slipor just while watching the game. Although a fierce competitor on the field, he always treated the opposition and officials with respect and I can never remember any cross words or incidents with anyone he was playing against, what happened on the pitch stayed on the pitch and he was always the first to mix and chat with the opposition in the bar after the game, win or lose.
We all have our own stories involving Lee and this is a time to remember these with the happiness they provide in these troubled times. There will be time when things get back to some sense of normality when we can get together and celebrate a wonderful life that brought joy into all the lives of the people who knew Lee.
Our thoughts must now be with the people who will miss him the most and support them in whatever way we can. Rest in peace our dear friend and buddy and there will always be a spare beer on the bar for you.
